To know if your kid needs counseling will require some observation of them. Are they talking to you? Has their attitude and mood changed?
Have their grades in school dropped? Are they having a totally different set of friends? Are they getting into trouble at school?
Another thing to consider is are you spending time with them? Are you observing them at home and away from home? Are you really taking the time to be involved in their life? I have listed many things to consider.
Counseling might be a way to get them to talk about an issue they are having. A neutral voice to listen might be what’s needed.
